Leading industry magazine ‘Housebuilder News’ has recently published an article relating to the misguidance and mis-selling of new homes by four of the largest and most well-known property development companies in the UK.
According to the article, The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched enforcement action and said it was bringing action, having “uncovered troubling evidence of potentially unfair terms concerning ground rents in leasehold contracts and potential mis-selling.”
The CMA stated it was concerned that leasehold homeowners may have been “unfairly treated and that buyers may have been misled by developers.”
Here at Barclay Firth, we were concerned to read about this and felt obliged to write a blog to explain how we work in stark contrast to the major house builders referenced in the original article.
We are a small, privately owned property development company who pride ourselves on complete transparency, honesty, and integrity.
We would like to make it clear, that we would never misguide or mislead potential new homeowners. All of our homes are sold on a ‘freehold’ basis, which means that the property purchaser takes complete ownership of the house and land (ground) as outlined and registered on the plot deeds.
We never build any properties for ‘lease-hold’ contract and will never consider this as an option in future.
Barclay Firth Architectural Designer & Managing Director, Michelle Gaffaney, explains “…home is where the heart is. Our main focus is to design and build great new homes which our clients are proud to call home…I love receiving positive feedback from happy clients and this inspires us to move on to the next design and development. We are not interested in continuing to press homeowners for money on ground rent year after year. We do like to keep in touch, but simply to see how our homeowners are doing! Our corporate strategy to succeed is based purely on great design, craftsmanship, lots of hard work and our strong (and growing) reputation….!”
